What is Hypnotherapy or Hypnosis?
Hypnotherapy or hypnosis (trance) is simply a state of focused attention and a very ordinary process which most of us do on a daily basis. Clients often comment about how 'ordinary' Hypnosis feels - it's not unlike daydreaming. In this relaxed state, your mind is more responsive to suggestion and in a therapeutic setting, the suggestions are designed to help you change unhelpful thought patterns.
If you imagine a time when you were so engrossed in a movie, reading a book or undertaking an activity and not been conscious of time passing. Or, if you travel a familiar or regular journey and when you reach your destination, you cannot remember passing certain parts of the journey, if so, you've been in a state of focused attention, not unlike the feeling of being Hypnotised or Trance.
During Trance the Hypnotherapist will be able to tap into your subconscious mind to create positive changes. However, throughout the process, you are always in full control and can open your eyes at any time.
What Hypnosis is not?
It is not like stage Hypnotherapy or images portrayed in films, so no, the therapist cannot take control of your mind, cannot hypnotise you against your will and cannot make you believe you are a chicken. No-one can make you do anything you do not want to do under hypnosis as your subconscious mind will reject any suggestions that are inappropriate for you.
What is Solution Focused Hypnotherapy?
Solution Focused Hypnotherapy (SFH) is a combination of Solution Focused Therapy, Neuroscience (brain based therapy) and Hypnotherapy and uses parts from Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and Neuro linguistic Programming (NLP).
I
SFH focuses on solutions for the future rather than focussing on past problems or issues. The therapist will acknowledge where you are currently, help identify where the client wants to be and support them with the necessary changes. So, if the client is willing to make changes to the way they think, the therapy can be highly effective in reducing the symptoms of anxiety and stress.
SFH. uses the latest Neuroscience to explain the clients issues in a simplified and easy to understand brain explanation and combines this with trance (Hypnosis).
The client will be given a download at the end of the Initial Consultation which can be used each night when going to bed. This will help promote good sleep and support the ongoing therapy sessions.
Each session is a collaborative process which focusses on the positive aspects in the clients life rather than the issue and by setting small steps to achieving their future goal, unlike other types of therapy, SFH looks at the clients present and preferred future.
